Mission: Capture & Controle
Deployment: Spearhead

- Cult reserves: Brood Brother Mob
Cult Turn 1
After making their scout move and a normal move to get a clear view, the squadron of Sentinels opened fire on the Hive Tyrant. But their autocannons failed to penetrate the thick carapace of the winged behemoth. Next to unleash their payload were the two Leman Russ tanks, targeting the brood of Carnifexes, scoring only 2 wounds to the beasts. Nothing impressive… Both Hybrid squads and the Hierarch’s squad fired at the Carnifexes as well, scoring 4 wounds in total, killing one and leaving the last one with only 2 wounds remaining.
All in all a meagre turn to be honest. The cult members were probably confused fighting their “progenitors”.
Tyranids Turn 1
At the start of the Tyranid turn, both Tervigons used catalyst, one targeting the remaining Carnifex, the other the Hive Tyrant. After rolling for psychic tests, only the Carnifex received the buff. Next were the spawning rolls: both Tervigons crapped out 9 Termagants with still more to come.
The Carnifex fired his heavy venom cannon at one of the Hybrid squads, but the templated scattered harmlessly away from the Chimera. The same happened when the Hive Tyrant targeted the Hierarch’s Chimera. The rest of the army moved forwards and ran.
Cult Turn 2
Rolling a nice 6 for reserves, the Brood Brothers arrived from the left table edge and ran as fast as possible towards the Tyranids.
In the Shooting phase, the Sentinels tried again to hurt the Hive Tyrant, but failed miserably again. One Hybrid squad shot out of their Chimera at the last Carnifex, finishing it off with their lascannon and plasma guns, leaving their tank free to target the Hive Tyrant, causing 1 wound. The other Hybrids and the Hierarch’s squad also shot at the Hive Tyrant, reducing it to 1 wound. One Leman Russ finished the job and downed the beast. The second Leman Russ shot at one of the Tervigons, hitting nothing…
Tyranids Turn 2
Half of the Nid’s reserved arrived on the table, in the shape of 8 Genestealers (appearing near the Sentinels) and an angry Trygon (popping up right next to a Leman Russ).
With the Carnifexes and the Hive Tyrant gone, the Tervigons gave themselves Feel No Pain and began spawning again. Two new Termagant broods of 16 and 12 models hit the table, although one Tervigon made his (or her) last critters this battle.
Two broods of 9 Termagants shot at one Hybrid Chimera, shaking it. A tiny brood of 5 Termagants took some pod shots at the Sentinels, but did nothing. After running, the Genestealer came one inch short of assaulting the Sentinels.
Cult Turn 3
With their Chimera shaken, the Hybrids raced across the table in their vehicle towards the Trygon, disembarking within rapid fire range. The Hierarch orded them to “bring it down” and they caused 3 wounds, although losing one plasma gunner.
Having lost their favourite target, the Sentinels tuned their autocannons in on the Trygon, causing 1 wound. The Hierarch’s squad took the 2 last wounds from the Trygon, sending the beast back to the abyss. The Hybrid Brutes shot their ripper guns out from the top of their Chimera at a large brood of Termagants, killing 9 in the process. The second Hybrid squad shot at one of the Tervigons, causing 2 wounds, while the Brood Brothers opened fire a yet some more Termagants, killing only a meagre 7.
Tyranids Turn 3
The second Trygon emerged from the underground, right next to the disembarked Hybrids. The last Genestealers didn’t feel like showing themselves though.
Both Tervigons buffed up with Feel No Pain, and one created another Termagant brood of 15 models, although he had to stop now as well.
The combined fire of several Termagant broods (24 in total) killed the disembarked Hybrids. One Tervigon shot his cluster spines into the mass of Brood Brothers, nailing 7 while the other one targeted the Brood Brother’s command squad, killing 3. Their babies – a brood of 16 Termagants – pumped some borer worms into the Brood Brothers as well, sending 5 to a painful death.
The new Trygon shot his spines into the side of the now dead Hybrids, but only managed to shake it again.
The 16 Termagants assaulted the Brood Brothers, downing 2. The Brood Brothers fought back fanatically, killing 9 gaunts. The Termagants lost 5 more after No Retreat! saves. The Genestealers made it to the Sentinels now, breaking off 2 autocannons. The Sentinels squished one ‘stealer in return. A tiny brood of 2 Termagants assaulted the Brood Brother command squad, but neither side managed to inflict casualties.
Cult Turn 4
The Hybrid Brutes disembarked from their Chimera and moved towards one of the Tervigons, causing 1 wound with their ripper guns. One of the Leman Russ Tanks manged to kill a whole Termagant with all its guns. Impressive! The second Leman Russ killed 3 Termagants (better!) and took a wound from the Trygon. The Hierarch and his squad managed to inflict 4 wound to the Trygon with a little help from their Chimera. Seeing the Trygon was near death, the remaining Hybrids aimed their lascannon and shot the beast right between the eyes.
The Hybrid Brutes assaulted the Tervigon with all their fury, but failed to do anything, other than taking a wound. Their stubbornness ensured that they stayed put though. The Brood Brothers and their command squad finished off the remaining gaunts. The Genestealer managed to stun one Sentinel, but one of them got itself squished again beneath one of the mighty Sentinel close combat weapons – ie its legs.
Tyranids Turn 4
Again the Genestealers didn’t bother showing up this turn. Feel No Pain on the Tervigons, they knew the drill be now.
With everything in close combat, no shooting or running was to be done. The free Tervigon assaulted into the Brood Brother mass, killing 6 unfortunate cultists, while remaining unscratched. The Genestealers on the other hand lost another of their numbers fighting the Sentinels while doing nothing in return. The other Tervigon received some help from two Termagant broods, charging to Hybrid Brutes. Again the Brutes failed miserably, and the Tyranids inflicted 8 impressive wounds on them – damn poison!
With no more time to play any further, we had to call it quits after Turn 4. The end result was a Draw, with one Hybrid squad babysitting the Cult’s home objective and a big brood of Termagants doing the same on the other side of the table.
